About Gates Foundation
Role purpose
As Deputy Director, GHIDE Domain (Global Health Integrated Development Expertise), you will be a key member of the Integrated Development leadership team and within Global Health, reporting to the Director of Integrated Development. In this senior, highly visible role, you will provide strategic and operational direction for the GHIDE domain and guide cross-functional product development strategy across our Global Health portfolio.
Your leadership will be pivotal in ensuring that the Foundation’s product development efforts are cohesive, clinically rigorous, technically sound, and positioned for maximum impact.
You will help accelerate the development and delivery of life-saving health solutions by embedding robust clinical development strategies into product plans and ensuring readiness for regulatory approval and introduction.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
In this role, your primary objective is to lead the GHIDE domain’s contribution to product development, ensuring integrated support and strategic guidance across all stages of the product lifecycle. You will be responsible for both high-level strategy and day-to-day coordination to connect teams with the expertise they need. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Strategic Domain Leadership: Provide comprehensive strategic and operational direction for the GHIDE domain. Set priorities and develop plans that ensure the IDev domains work in concert to support product development programs and drive operational excellence across the domain’s portfolio of projects.
- Thought Partnership: Serve as a key thought partner within IDev’s leadership team. Work closely with the IDev Director and other domain leaders to shape overall Integrated Development strategies, share best practices, and foster a cohesive, high-performing team that continuously improves our support model.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with Program Strategy Teams (PSTs) to embed integrated development strategies into product development plans. Facilitate support from IDev domains for PST-led initiatives while respecting the PSTs’ ownership of grantee relationships and the principle that grantees retain ownership of their product assets.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with a broad range of stakeholders to advance our product development goals. Internally, liaise between IDev and PSTs to align support with program needs. Externally, represent the Foundation’s development efforts to industry partners, regulatory agencies, and global health organizations – building strong partnerships and establishing credibility as a senior Foundation leader.
- Portfolio & Decision Guidance: Advise on critical product development decisions and portfolio management processes. This includes providing expert input on go/no-go decisions, participating in stage-gate reviews, and helping to formulate integrated development strategies across the product lifecycle. Ensure that data-driven, strategic decision-making frameworks are applied to advance the most promising innovations.
- Management and Internal Partners: Manage a team of three Senior Program Officers responsible for various activities within GHIDE along with one Senior Program Manager who is responsible for the project management activities for the GHIDE domain.
