Role purpose
This is a role for a board member who is well-connected and can act as a bridge between the organisation and potential partners. The main role of this board member is helping to build trusted relationships and amplify the organisation’s presence/credibility in the Netherlands and beyond.
Key Experience and Background
- Proven track record of relationship-building across sectors in the Dutch context.
- Strong understanding of Dutch institutional culture and the role of the Netherlands in international cooperation or humanitarian efforts.
- Experience serving on advisory boards, funding committees, or leadership networks in the Dutch ecosystem.
Core Competencies & Personal Attributes
- Strategic stakeholder engagement and partnership development.
- Understanding of Dutch funding, regulatory, or policy landscapes relevant to humanitarian work. Ability to serve as a public advocate and organisational ambassador in the Netherlands.
- Familiarity with governance in nonprofit or mission-driven organisations. Relationship-oriented and trusted across sectors.
- Persuasive communicator with the ability to open doors and build bridges.
- Values-driven and capable of serving as a credible and principled ambassador for the organisation’s mission.
As a board member with deep local knowledge and networks, this individual will:
- Help position the organisation within the Dutch ecosystem of funders, partners, and thought leaders. Support early fundraising, reputation-building, and strategic partnerships in the Netherlands.
- Offer insight into navigating Dutch institutions, frameworks, and cultural nuances. Strengthen the board’s diversity of perspectives and local relevance.
Time Commitment
Board meetings will be held quarterly (3 virtually and one likely in the Netherlands. Overall time commitment is likely 20 days in the first year as the Board gets established, decreasing to 10 days in the 2nd year.
Terms of Appointment
Board members serve for three years, renewable once for a maximum of six years.
