Role purpose
This is a role for a board member with deep expertise in Audit/Finance and Risk Management. This individual will play a key role in helping to shape the organisation’s financial governance and ensure its early foundations are strong, transparent, and aligned with best practice.
Key Experience and Background
- Senior experience in finance, audit, risk, or fiduciary oversight.
- Strong understanding of financial governance in nonprofit, humanitarian, or international development organisations.
- Familiarity with grant based funding models and donor reporting.
- Experience navigating financial or operational risk in complex and fast-changing environments

- Oversight of budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Risk management frameworks and internal controls.
- Audit and compliance, including working with external auditors and donors.

As a Board Member with financial and risk expertise, this individual will:
- Help establish the organisation’s financial governance structures and risk management systems.
- Provide oversight on financial matters, including budget approval and donor compliance.
- Serve as a financial sounding board to the executive team.
- Ensure that financial decisions align with the mission, ethical standards, and long-term sustainability of the organisation.
Time Commitment
Board meetings will be held quarterly (3 virtually and one likely in the Netherlands. Overall time commitment is likely 20 days in the first year as the Board gets established, decreasing to 10 days in the 2nd year.
Terms of Appointment
The Chair will serve for three years, renewable once for a maximum of six years. All ACAPS Board positions are volunteer roles and not compensated. Reimbursement for travel costs will be provided.
