AGRA

Chief of Staff & Strategy

About AGRA

AGRA is an African-led institution that works to transform agri-food systems across the continent. For twenty years, AGRA has been working in partnership with people across the continent to build a more prosperous future for smallholders. Grounded in country priorities, AGRA partners with governments, the private sector, research institutions and development actors to identify and unlock systemic constraints that limit smallholder farmer productivity, market access and resilience. Through catalytic investment, technical insight and convening power, AGRA supports inclusive, sustainable transformation that strengthens food security and long-term economic growth.

Our AGRA@20 activities this year are not just a celebration of what has been achieved together. This is our moment to call for consolidation and acceleration. Our moment to commit to connecting the dots that now exist to ensure that in the next 20 years, Africa’s agri-food systems are investable, scalable and full of opportunity for the people that matter most.

Welcome from Agra President – Alice Ruhweza

As AGRA marks AGRA@20, we reflect on two decades of working alongside farmers, governments, and partners to strengthen Africa’s food systems. Our founding belief remains as relevant today as it was twenty years ago: that Africa’s smallholder farmers are central to the continent’s prosperity, resilience, and food security.

Across Africa, agriculture sits at the heart of economic opportunity and human wellbeing. Yet the challenges facing food systems from climate change to population growth are increasing in scale and complexity. Our focus in the years ahead is clear: to accelerate the transformation of inclusive, resilient, and sustainable food systems that enable farmers and communities across the continent to thrive.

What gives me confidence in this next chapter is the strength of AGRA’s people. Over the years, AGRA has grown into a dynamic organisation working across countries and partnerships, but our greatest asset has always been the talent, commitment, and passion of our teams. Our people bring together expertise in science, policy, finance, partnerships, and innovation, all united by a shared purpose to deliver meaningful impact for Africa’s farmers.

At AGRA, human capital is at the centre of our mission. We believe that attracting and empowering talented individuals is essential to achieving lasting change. We believe our purpose and drive to contribute to transforming Africa’s food systems is an inspiration to many talented individuals to join forces be part of AGRA’s next chapter.
