Role purpose

Director, Data & Analytics Hub Role Profile

Jhpiego’s newly formed Data & Analytics Hub, which sits within TLI, brings together a multi-disciplinary team focused on advanced analytics, digital health, data use, measurement and evaluation, adaptive management and learning. The team works together both with technical leaders within TLI and country and project leaders across the organization.


Jhpiego seeks a visionary who believes in the relentless use of data, analytics and insights to guide projects and programs and accelerate impact across the organization’s portfolio of programs in 35 countries. We are looking for a strategic thinker and exceptional collaborator who can lead and grow a high-performing team and effectively engage a range of teams across Jhpiego and its partners.


The Director, Data & Analytics Hub will serve as a thought leader, setting and overseeing Jhpiego’s digital transformation strategy and efforts to align data systems, technologies and data use approaches to advance global health objectives. The Director will guide the implementation of the strategy and ensure the organization optimizes staff capacity, data systems and technologies to achieve strategic objectives. The Director will provide leadership on complex digital technology and advanced data science activities across Jhpiego’s portfolio of activities in Africa, Asia and Latin America in technical areas including HIV, Malaria, MNH, family planning and reproductive health, tuberculosis, and infectious diseases. The Director will oversee teams supporting digital health and data analytics activities and MEL, and work in an integrated manner with Jhpiego’s staff supporting technologies. The Director will provide leadership to ensure technical excellence across these areas and will develop and maintain relationships that grow Jhpiego’s portfolio and strengthen its reputation as a global leader.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sets the vision for integrating Jhpiego’s data science, data use, data systems and technologies activities into an organizational-wide digital transformation strategy. Oversees the implementation of the strategy and the development and execution of the workplan and budget, maintaining accountability for responsible and effective spending within the unit to achieve priority objectives.
  • Provides strategic and thought leadership to guide, provide technological oversight and ensure integrations of digital, technology and data solutions across all levels of the organization, including solutions to leverage data from service delivery, data collection and management systems, technologies such as machine learning and approaches that support data demand, visualization and use to improve project outcomes and optimize performance and scalability.
  • Supports the conceptualization and implementation of organizational-wide initiatives to achieve strategic priorities. Conceptualizes, designs, and provides portfolio-level oversight for donor-funded projects to achieve project goals and strengthen performance.
  • Oversees senior level staff leading Digital Health and Data Analytics HMIS & Data Systems, and MEL teams. Provides high-level, strategic direction for staff across these teams to ensure the provision of high-quality technical assistance to Jhpiego projects. Deploys and maximizes human resources across the unit and acquires new talent.
  • Works closely with Jhpiego Country Office staff, Global Programs Office, and other technical teams and offices within the organization to ensure strategies are aligned with project and organizational needs and realities. Works collaboratively across technical implementation units (RMNCAH, Gender, HIV, Infectious Diseases and Malaria) to ensure data activities are well-integrated, of high-quality and are responsive to technical priorities and needs.
  • Continually assesses global trends to ensure Jhpiego is on the forefront of data science, data systems, technologies and data use. Provides organizational-wide leadership and guidance for building capacity to strengthen Jhpiego’s reputation globally as a leader in these areas. Partners with country-based subject matter experts and technology leaders to stay current on technological advances, health benefits and risks and best practices.
  • Support efforts to build capacity to leverage data and digital health tools, enhance data use, measurement and evaluation, implementation research, learning and adaptive management across the organization.
  • Maintains and builds new partnerships with organizations, private enterprises and stakeholders to expand Jhpiego’s capabilities.
  • Develops and maintains excellent professional relationships with governments, global institutions and donors worldwide to maximize Jhpiego’s impact and leverage, including developing new business opportunities, and contributing to positioning, leads development, and proposal design and production.
  • Ensures global leadership for Jhpiego by serving on external advisory or working groups and representing Jhpiego in key global and regional technical meetings and committees.


Education, Qualifications & Experience

  • Outstanding academic credentials. MPH, MBA or other relevant degree preferred
  • At least 10 years’ of progressively responsible experience in leadership and development of digital technologies, data systems and their enabling environment, at least 5 of which include managing staff.
  • Demonstrated up-to-date knowledge of digital technologies, data systems, advanced analytics and data use methodologies, standards and approaches and understanding of the constraints and benefits of different tools and technologies.
  • Strong ability to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and teamwork.
  • Deep understanding of LMIC health systems and country-specific barriers limiting effective healthcare delivery
  • Strategic thinker with exemplary record of developing and operationalizing vision and strategy
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and demonstrated experience utilizing digital health and data solutions to effectuate disruptive change in health care systems of low and middle-income countries (LMIC)
  • Proven leadership and management skills and proven record of managing diverse skill sets, working effectively with and leading diverse teams of professionals
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment and in challenging developing country settings
  • Proven ability to work in a complex, fast-paced, multi-cultural environment with multiple tasks and short deadlines
  • Entrepreneurial and results-oriented mindset, comfortable with uncertainty, willing to take calculated risks, and proven ability to deliver results
  • Exceptional communication skills with ability to diplomatically and clearly communicate complex ideas with well-developed structure and logic
  • Ability to lead as a team player, mentor and manager, demanding top performance from self and in partnership with the entire team
  • Excellent understanding of USAID, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and other donor systems, structures and processes
  • Ability to travel up to 30% nationally and internationally



  • French, Spanish or Portuguese language skills
  • Demonstrated success working with key stakeholders in both the public and private sectors, particularly in resource-constrained countries
  • Demonstrated experience achieving disruptive organizational change
  • Experience working in a country office setting highly preferred
