Our client, a non-profit organisation, is dedicated to driving innovation in developing countries by identifying, funding, and scaling evidence-based solutions that improve the lives of low-income populations. Operating as both a charity and an investor, the organisation bridges the gap between entrepreneurship and development finance to address global challenges creatively and effectively.

 

Role Location

This role is based in the client’s London office. The successful candidate must have authorisation to work in the UK before commencing employment.

Role purpose

Our client is seeking a new CEO to elevate the organisation to the next level. Guided by its strong values and vision, the CEO will be responsible for designing, executing, and refining growth strategies to scale the organisation’s work and impact further.

 

In addition to maintaining and expanding existing government-backed funding, the CEO will lead strategies to secure increased private sector and philanthropic funding.

 

As the organisation’s external representative, the CEO will position it as a thought leader, drive new business, and build and sustain investor and partner relationships. They will also champion innovation across the organisation.

 

Reporting to the Board, the CEO will lead the senior management team and work collaboratively to strengthen the organisation’s structure while upholding its core values and principles.

 

The CEO will leverage the organisation’s proven track record, deep thematic expertise, and a diverse team of investment and development professionals located across global markets. They will benefit from strong Legal, Finance, Operations, and HR support functions, a reputable Board, and a highly visible brand.

 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to evidence-based approaches and possess an understanding of the global development landscape, including the operational realities of emerging economies. They will have experience operating across public and private sectors within an international context and a proven ability to forge partnerships that deliver impactful results.

 

The role requires exceptional analytical skills paired with the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively to diverse audiences. The successful candidate will bring energy and drive, skillfully balancing urgency with an understanding of emerging trends to guide strategic decision-making in the evolving field of impact investing.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the organisation’s global strategy in collaboration with the leadership team and Board, including refining the new five-year strategy.  
  • Act as the external face of the organisation, positioning it as a thought leader at global forums and events.  
  • Lead fundraising initiatives, maintaining existing partnerships while diversifying the donor base.  
  • Collaborate with the Chief Investment Officer to expand the current portfolio of investments.  
  • Ensure existing funds are deployed effectively to meet donor objectives within set timeframes.  
  • Continue leading the organisation’s focus on gender and climate-related investments.  
  • Oversee the integration of a new fund in partnership with the Chief Investment Officer.  
  • Identify and cultivate competencies to explore new business opportunities aligned with the organisation’s strategy.  
  • Manage, inspire, and grow a high-performing senior leadership team.  
  • Provide visionary leadership to a global, multicultural organisation.  

 

The CEO must adapt quickly to the organisation’s needs and may be assigned additional responsibilities by the Board as required.

 

Candidate Profile  

 

The ideal candidate will have:  

  • Demonstrated inclusive executive leadership experience in a comparable organisation, with a proven track record of shaping strategy, managing diverse teams, and delivering impactful results.  
  • Over 15 years of experience managing the full lifecycle of projects and innovations in international development, with expertise in impact investing, particularly in emerging economies.  
  • A strong commitment to the organisation’s mission and a genuine passion for creating measurable impact.  
  • Proven success in building and sustaining credible relationships with bilateral donors and other partners, effectively aligning organisational objectives with donor priorities while fostering trust and collaboration.  
  • Experience engaging productively with a Board of Directors, exhibiting transparency, collaboration, and openness to feedback.
  • A deep understanding of the operating environments in emerging economies, with experience engaging both private and public sector stakeholders to achieve impactful development outcomes.  
  • Equal ease representing the organisation at high-level industry functions and engaging directly with stakeholders in low-resource settings, demonstrating empathy and understanding at all levels.  
  • The ability to maintain organisational focus during periods of uncertainty, ensuring stability and alignment with strategic goals.
